ChitChat Not Working? Start Here

A black camera, silence, a search that never ends: it usually comes down to a permission or a shaky connection. Find your symptom below and you will probably be chatting again in a minute.

Quickest fix?

Reload, tap the padlock beside the address, set Camera and Microphone to Allow, then switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.

First check

Is ChitChat down or is it me?

Usually it is something on your device, and it takes under a minute to find out. Open any other website. If that loads slowly too, the trouble is your connection. If other sites are fine, reload ChitChat once, then try it in a second browser.

If it works in the second browser, the first one has a stale session or a blocked permission, and the sections below will sort it. If the site will not open anywhere, on Wi-Fi and on mobile data alike, the problem may be on our side. Wait a few minutes and try again before changing any settings.

Picture

Why is my camera black?

Because the browser has not been given the camera, or something else is holding on to it. Work down this list and stop when the picture appears.

  • Permission was refused. Tap the padlock or settings icon next to the web address, set Camera to Allow and reload.
  • Another app is using it. A video-meeting app or a second browser tab can lock the camera. Close them completely, not just minimise them.
  • The system has blocked the browser. Phones and computers have their own privacy switch for the camera, separate from the browser's. Check that your browser is allowed there.
  • The wrong camera is selected. On a laptop with an external webcam, the browser may be pointed at the one that is unplugged or covered. Pick the other from the permission menu.
  • A physical cover. It sounds silly until it is your turn. Check the privacy slider on the laptop lid.

Sound

Why can't they hear me?

Microphone trouble follows the same pattern as the camera. First, look at the permission beside the web address and make sure Microphone says Allow. Second, check that your phone is not connected to a pair of earbuds sitting in a drawer; a Bluetooth headset that is switched on but not in your ears will happily take the audio.

If you cannot hear them, the fix is usually simpler: the media volume is down, or the phone's silent switch is on. Raise the volume while the call is running, because many phones keep one volume for ringtones and another for media. On a computer, check that the right speaker or headset is chosen as the output.

Matching

Why does matching keep loading?

A search that never finishes is nearly always a connection that is too weak to set up a video call, even though ordinary pages still load. Switch from mobile data to Wi-Fi, or the reverse, and try again. Move closer to the router. Pause any big download running in the background.

A VPN, a workplace network or a strict content blocker can also stop the call from connecting, because live video needs routes that some of them close. Turn the VPN or blocker off for a moment to test. Finally, the hour matters a little: very late in your region there are fewer people to match with, and a search can take longer.

Drops

Why did the chat drop?

Either the other person left, or one of your connections wobbled. The first is not a fault. People end calls for all sorts of reasons, and a chat that stops after a few seconds usually means they moved on.

If calls drop again and again in the middle of conversations, look at your side. Phones save battery by putting browsers to sleep when the screen locks or when you switch apps, which cuts the call. Keep ChitChat on screen while you talk, turn off battery-saver mode for the session, and stay on one network instead of walking between Wi-Fi and mobile coverage.

By device

Where are the fixes on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac?

Where the important switches live on each kind of device.

Where to look on your device
DeviceCamera and mic permissionIf it still fails
iPhone / iPadSettings → Safari → Camera and Microphone, set to Ask or AllowUse Safari, update iOS, and remove then re-add the home-screen icon
AndroidChrome → padlock by the address → Permissions; also Settings → Apps → Chrome → PermissionsUpdate Chrome, clear the site's data for chitchatgg.live, switch off battery saver
WindowsBrowser padlock → Camera and Microphone; also Settings → Privacy → CameraClose other apps that use the webcam, update the browser, try Edge or Chrome
MacBrowser padlock or Safari → Settings → Websites; also System Settings → Privacy & Security → CameraQuit other video apps, restart the browser after changing a system permission

Using the home-screen icon? It keeps its own permissions. If the website works in the browser but the icon does not, delete the icon and add it again from the ChitChat app page.

Before you reset anything

Which fixes cost you something?

Most of the fixes on this page are free of side effects: reloading, changing a permission, switching network, closing another app. Two are not, and it is worth knowing which before you reach for them.

Clearing the site data for chitchatgg.live makes the browser forget ChitChat completely. If you were using the site as a guest, that guest session goes with it, and you come back as a new one. If there are people you would not want to lose track of, sign in before you clear anything; ChitChat login explains what an account is for.

Removing and re-adding the home-screen icon costs less. The icon keeps its own permissions, so a fresh icon asks for the camera and microphone again. Opened from the icon, ChitChat usually carries on with the session you had in the browser; if it does not, coming back in is a new guest session. Allow both and carry on.

Still stuck

How do I contact ChitChat support?

By email, at [email protected]. Note down your device, your browser and the exact words of any error first; that saves a round of questions. The contact page lists what to include for each kind of problem. If your trouble is with signing in and not with the call itself, start at ChitChat login instead.

Troubleshooting questions

Why is ChitChat not working?

The usual causes are a blocked camera or microphone permission, a weak connection, or an out-of-date browser. Reload, check the padlock beside the address, and try a second browser.

Is the ChitChat server down?

Check your own connection first. If other sites load and ChitChat does not open in any browser on Wi-Fi or mobile data, wait a few minutes and retry before changing your settings.

Why is ChitChat GG not working on my phone?

On a phone the cause is usually a permission. Use Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android, allow camera and microphone, and turn off battery saver while you chat.

How do I contact Chit Chat support?

Email [email protected] with your device, your browser and what you saw on screen. The contact page lists what to include for each kind of problem.

Why does the home-screen icon fail when the browser works?

The icon keeps its own camera and microphone permissions. Open it, allow both when asked, or remove the icon and add it again.

Should I clear my browser data to fix it?

Try the other fixes first. Clearing the data for chitchatgg.live also clears a guest session, so you would start again as a new guest.

Why does my browser block the camera?

Browsers block cameras by default and ask before each site may use one. If you dismissed or refused the prompt, reopen it from the padlock next to the address and choose Allow.

Does a VPN cause connection problems?

It can. Some VPNs and filtered networks close the routes that live video uses. Switch the VPN off briefly to see whether matching starts working.
