The ChitChat App Lives in Your Browser

No. The ChitChat app is the website itself: it runs in the browser on your phone or computer, so there is nothing to fetch first. Open the page, tap Start and you are talking to someone.

If what you want is an icon on your home screen, you can have that too. Every modern phone lets you pin a website next to your other apps, and once ChitChat is pinned it opens full screen and behaves the way an installed app does. The two sections below give the steps for iPhone and Android.

You may also notice a "Get ChitChat App" strip at the foot of the page. Its button does the same job as the steps below: it puts the site on your home screen. Nothing else is installed.

Use Safari's Share menu. It takes four taps and about twenty seconds, and you only do it once.

Use the browser menu in Chrome. Android sometimes shows an install banner at the bottom of the page as well; accepting that banner does exactly the same job.

Less than you might think, and nothing about what the site can do. The icon is a doorway to the same ChitChat, so there is no "full version" held back somewhere else; how ChitChat works covers the features themselves. What does change is how the window behaves.

Because the browser already does the job, and it does it with less fuss. A web app takes up almost no storage, which matters on a phone that keeps warning you it is full. It never needs updating by hand: each time you open it, you get the current version. And it follows you. Borrow a laptop, switch phones or wipe your device, and ChitChat is one web address away with nothing to reinstall.

There is a privacy side to it as well. A site in a browser can only use your camera and microphone after you say yes, and you can take that permission back from the browser settings at any time.

Any current browser will do. If you have a choice, use the one that came with your device, because it tends to handle the camera most smoothly.

The first time you start a video chat, the browser shows a prompt asking whether chitchatgg.live may use your camera and microphone. Tap Allow for both. That is the whole setup; the browser remembers your answer for next time.

If you tapped Block by accident, the video area stays dark. Tap the padlock or the settings icon beside the web address, set Camera and Microphone back to Allow and reload the page.
