Is ChitChat Free?

Free to start, and we mean exactly that. You can open the site, go in as a guest and have real conversations without paying. New users are given free matches, and the Reward Center tops them up through the day.

It is not free without limit, and we would rather say so here than have you find out mid-conversation. Each match opens with a stretch of free time. Talk beyond it and the call carries on using coins, with a notice shown in the call beforehand. You can chat on the free allowance alone, or buy coins for more. Both are normal ways to use the place.

A set of free matches, credited when you first arrive. They are there so that you can find out what ChitChat is like before any question of money comes up. Each time you are matched with a new person on video, one is used.

We do not print the number on this page because it can change, and a figure that was right when we wrote it would mislead you later.

The Reward Center is where free matches come from after your first ones. You will find it at the top of the match screen, the screen you land on after tapping Start.

It works on a simple rhythm. A reward becomes available, you tap to claim it, and after a wait another one appears. That happens several times a day, so a person who drops in morning, afternoon and evening collects more than someone who visits once. When you look, you will see either a reward that is ready or a countdown to the next one.

If you only take one thing from this page, make it this: look at the top of the match screen before you assume you have run out.

The call does not simply cut off, and it does not carry on unannounced either. The free time comes first in any match. As it runs down, a notice appears in the call. If you keep talking past it, the call continues on coins for as long as it lasts.

If you would rather not use coins, that notice is your cue: say goodbye, follow the person if you liked them, and end the call. If you do continue and your coins run low, the site prompts you to top up, and without enough coins the call ends.

This is the part people most often misread, so it is worth being plain. Free matches decide how many new people you can meet without paying. Free time decides how long each of those first meetings runs before coins come into it.

In two places. One is the end of the free time in a call, described above. The other is when your free matches are used up and you want to keep meeting new people without waiting for the next reward: each new match uses one of your free matches, or coins once those are gone.

Coins are ChitChat's currency. You buy them in a pack and they are spent as you use paid features. Buying coins needs an account, so the site asks you to sign in first; ChitChat login explains what an account is for. You only pay when you choose to buy.

Look around. Opening ChitChat, seeing Who's online, viewing the list by country and reading people's profiles do not use matches. Neither does reading any page on this site or claiming from the Reward Center.

Following is the habit that makes the free allowance stretch, because a followed person can be found again from your list without leaving it to luck. And you are not asked for a card on the way in: you can look, claim and chat on what you have been given.
